MUMBAI, India — Building on its aggressive expansion strategy in the South Asian market, Zoom Video Communications has announced the rollout of its Zoom Phone service in three additional Indian cities: Pune, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru.
This move follows the successful initial launch in Mumbai and Delhi-NCR, bringing Zoom’s AI-first cloud PBX (Private Branch Exchange) solution to India’s most prominent technology and manufacturing hubs. The expansion is a direct response to the massive shift toward hybrid work models among Indian enterprises and multinational corporations (MNCs) operating in the region.
Strategic Expansion into Tech Hubs
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) recently granted Zoom the necessary Unified Licenses, allowing the company to offer a complete telecommunications service bundled with its cloud platform. By targeting Pune, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, Zoom is positioning itself at the heart of India’s “Silicon Valley” and its burgeoning automotive and IT sectors.
The service allows businesses to:
- Replace Legacy Systems: Transition away from traditional, hardware-heavy on-premise PBX systems to a flexible cloud-based model.
- Consolidate Communication: Manage voice calls, video meetings, and team chat within a single Zoom Workplace interface.
- Obtain Native Numbers: Access local India phone numbers, enabling a domestic presence for global companies.
Driving Productivity with AI
A key differentiator for Zoom in the Indian market is the integration of the Zoom AI Companion. Included at no additional cost for paid subscribers, the AI assistant automates several administrative tasks that typically bog down business communications:
- Call Summaries: Automatically generates concise summaries of phone conversations.
- Task Extraction: Identifies and lists action items discussed during a call.
- Voicemail Prioritization: Sorts and highlights urgent voicemails based on context.
Meeting Local Regulatory Standards
To comply with India’s stringent data localization and security regulations, Zoom has established local data centers in Mumbai and Hyderabad. This infrastructure ensures that voice traffic remains within the country, providing lower latency and higher call quality for domestic users.
“India is a strategic growth market for us,” said Sameer Raje, General Manager and Head of India & SAARC at Zoom. “The demand for a unified, reliable, and AI-powered communication platform has never been higher as organizations look to streamline their operations in a distributed work environment.”
