AHMEDABAD / COLOMBO — In a major push to capture the growing outbound travel market from Western India, Sri Lankan private carrier FitsAir has launched direct scheduled passenger flights between Ahmedabad and Colombo. The service, inaugurated on March 11, 2026, is part of a strategic collaboration with Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, Walkers Tours, and the newly opened City of Dreams Sri Lanka integrated resort.
Strategic Connectivity for Gujarat
The new route aims to tap into Gujarat’s high-potential leisure market, which has emerged as a top source region for Sri Lankan tourism.
- Frequency: The service will operate three times a week.
- Schedule: Flights feature an overnight departure from Colombo, arriving in Ahmedabad early in the morning to allow travelers a full first day of activities.
- Travel Packages: To mark the launch, the partners have introduced curated “Cinnamon Holiday” packages starting at ₹55,555, covering return airfare, luxury accommodation at Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams, and airport transfers.
Strengthening Bilateral Tourism
The partnership represents a highly integrated approach to tourism, where aviation and hospitality sectors align to create “seamless gateways” for international travelers.
“India continues to be one of our most important markets, and Gujarat in particular has shown strong interest in Colombo as a leisure destination. These dedicated flights provide a seamless gateway for travelers to experience the vibrant energy of City of Dreams Sri Lanka.” — Kamal Munasinghe, Senior VP, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts
Ammar Kassim, Director of FitsAir, noted that Ahmedabad is a “vibrant commercial center” that the airline has long sought to bring into its network. The direct link eliminates the need for time-consuming layovers in other Indian metros, significantly reducing travel time for first-time visitors and families from the region.
A Gateway to Luxury
The launch is timed with the positioning of City of Dreams Sri Lanka as South Asia’s first fully integrated resort. Beyond the capital, the new flights are expected to facilitate “multi-destination” itineraries, encouraging Gujarati tourists to explore the island’s tea country in Kandy and the beach resorts along the southern coast.
